Bill Mike Runyon – Paintsville Mayor
Bill Mike Runyon was born in Paintsville, KY to Bill and Janet Runyon on January 21st, 1956, at the old Paintsville Hospital. He is a lifelong and proud resident of Paintsville. He attended Paintsville Independent Schools from 1962-1974, then attended Pikeville College on an athletic scholarship from 1974-1978. He returned home to Paintsville and was employed by Paintsville Independent Schools from 1978 to 2016. His tenure at Paintsville Independent included the duties of teacher, coach, athletic director, and assistant principal. For Bill Mike Runyon, Paintsville has always been an important part of his life. Runyon states “My background in education enables me to better understand the needs of the people and our community.”
Bill Mike Runyon served on the Paintsville City Council for 8 years. He then took over as the Mayor of Paintsville in November of 2016, and is currently serving the city in that position, where he has seen the issuance of 25+ new business permits, a more than adequate balancing of the budget, upgrades in infrastructure, and developing a CRS committee that is working to lower residents flood insurance, and hopefully, will take the citizens of Paintsville out of the flood plain.
Runyon’s life-long investment in Paintsville is a product of Paintsville’s life-long investment in Runyon. Runyon’s goal is to give back to Paintsville what Paintsville gave to him, that led to all the success he has seen throughout his life. Runyon and his wife Jayme have lived on Court Street for 37 years, raising three children (David Matthew Runyon, Allison Nelson, and Laura Runyon) who are now practicing professional careers. He and Jayme are also proud grandparents of three grandchildren (Michael, Kennedy and William).
